Electrochemically-enabled methods for aryl radicals generation and their synthetic utility
The general aim of the project is to develop novel, highly useful electrochemical methods to transform simple and easily accessible arylboronic acid derivatives into aryl radicals. These reactive intermediates will be in-situ captured by various radical trapping agents, thus leading to more complex molecules mostly in two-step, one-pot procedures, in an environmentally-friendly manner, using modern electrolysers. The project tackles major challenges in electrochemically-mediated synthesis: stability of open-shell intermediates in the reaction environment, control of intermolecular reactivity of electrochemically generated radicals, activation of the strong C–B bond and selective modifications of materials featuring high oxidation potentials.
